Barbara Bennett, 8th Grade Counselor phone 868-0955
After attending Caddo Parish public schools, Barbara Mason Bennett received a BA degree in Education from Grambling State University and a ME in Guidance and Counseling from Prairie View A.M. She is in her 34th year as a Caddo Parish School Board employeee. She began her career as a math teacher at Green Oaks High School, which is her alma mater. After ten years, she accepted a counseling position at Youree Drive Middle School and in 1998, she became a member of the Caddo Middle Magnet staff. She is delighted to be a part of the "middle Magnet Spirit of Excellence". Her passion is spending quality time getting to know her students, talking to them, giving advice, listening to problems, teaching them how to become good problem-solvers, decision-makers and most of all helping them develop coping skills. 8th graders are finally maturing into semi-young adults, and don't do as many crazy, immature things they did in 6th and 7th gade, but nevertheless, they are still middle schoolers, and crazy things will happen! As she assists them with the transition from middle school to high school, she hopes they will be ready to enter high school with a chest full of self-confidence, the life skills to lead the way and the determination to be successful in all their endeavors. Her honors include: Rookie Teacher of the Year, Middle School Counselor of the Year and Educator of Distinction. A proud mother of two, Candace 27 and Lonnie II 19, when she is not at work, she loves spending time with her family, traveling, gardening, shopping, reading, exercising and interior designing. She is active with the Alpha Kappa Alpha Soriety and her church where she serves as the Dean of Christian Education. Her motto: Live life, Learn much, Laugh out Loud, Love everyone.
