Keith Burton, Principal

Picture
Keith Burton graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Louisiana State University in Shreveport in 1991 and a Master's Degree in Gifted/Talented Education and Educational Leadership in 1993.  He has completed 40+ post graduate hours in the areas of Curriculum and Educational Leadership.  As a classroom teacher, Mr. Burton was recognized as one of Shreveport's Outstanding Young Educators and was selected as Louisiana's first recipient of the Milken National Educator's Award ($25,000).  He serves as an adjunct member of the graduate faculties at LSU in Shreveport and Centenary College, with course emphasis on Educational Leadership.  He serves the Louisiana Department of Education as a new principal mentor.  Before coming to Caddo Middle Magnet in 2011, Mr. Burton served as principal of South Highlands Magnet School  and Fairfield Magnet School.  He is married to Tina Foster Burton, who teaches kindergarten in Caddo Parish. They have 3 children, Ryan, Will, and Anna Kate.

Cedric Ellis, Assistant Principal for Administration

Picture
Wonderful!!! This is the best description that Dr. Ellis uses regarding his tenure at Caddo Middle Magnet as Assistant Principal of Administration.  Dr. Ellis’s educational experiences of twenty-two years have been rewarding while working twenty of those years in Caddo Parish.  Two of Dr. Ellis’ early years in education were spent in the St. Mary Parish School system as a teacher at Berwick High School.
In Caddo, Dr. Ellis has been a classroom teacher and an assistant principal.  Dr. Ellis worked at Donnie Bickham Middle School and Oak Park Elementary School as a teacher, and at Linear Middle School as an Assistant Principal.  Varied experiences afforded Dr. Ellis numerous opportunities as an administrator and a teacher, yet none have been as exciting and challenging to Dr. Ellis as his time at Caddo Middle Magnet.  The warm, friendly environment at CMM, as well as the genuine care and support demonstrated by parents, teachers and students has helped Dr. Ellis become an important part of this great family.
Dr. Ellis’ experiences have also allowed him the opportunity to play basketball overseas in South America and coach at Southern University-Shreveport.  Dr. Ellis has one son, Corey, who attends Grambling State University and is married to Renee’ Ellis, who works at Eden Gardens Fundamental Magnet as an instructional coordinator.
While the challenges and experiences are numerous, the encouragement and the rewards are even greater.  Student achievement has always been the major emphasis of Dr. Ellis’s career; therefore, it is exciting for him to work at a school that continues to prove its “excellence in education” for the children in Caddo Parish, as well as the state of Louisiana.

Frank Hendrick, Assistant Principal of Instruction

Picture
Mr. Hendrick was born and reared in Shreveport. He became a teacher in 1987. He taught high school English before becoming an administrator in 1997. Prior to coming to Caddo Middle Magnet, Mr. Hendrick was a high school assistant principal, an elementary assistant principal, principal of a 6th grade middle school, and administrator of middle school and high school disciplinary alternative campuses. Mr. Hendrick enjoys working with students, parents, and the dynamic team of teachers and administrators at Caddo Middle Magnet.

He holds a Bachelors of Arts degree from Louisiana State University, a Masters of Education from the University of North Texas, Texas Superintendent Certification through The University of Texas at Arlington, and is currently enrolled in a doctoral program with Nova Southeastern University.

Mr. Hendrick’s wife, Paige, is a speech and language pathologist, and they have a daughter named Ella.  His philosophy of education is best summed up by the following quote from an unknown source: “Who are Schools for…Schools were created to meet the needs of children. They were not created to employ teachers, administrators, counselors, nurses, secretaries, cooks, bus drivers or anyone else. The reason for the existence of those in education is to serve the needs of children, ALL of them - the bright, dull, loud, quiet, black, white, interested, and even the disinterested ones. Our primary responsibility is to hold the well-being of children as the fundamental value in everything we do!"
